The Joy of Paperhanging
By
Walter Green

Introduction

Most of the wallcoverings that are bought each year are installed by the purchaser and not by a professional paperhanger. This would lead you to think that excellent information on the best methods of installing wallcoverings would be readily available. Not so.

The instruction sheets that come inside wallcovering rolls are frequently lacking in the quality of information you need to install yourself. There are a few good books, but most do-it-yourselfers will not buy and study them. To compound your problems, the books, brochures, videos and the TV programs each tell you something different. Their information is unreliable because it was produced by writers---not paperhangers.

This book comes to you from a professional paperhanger. It is based on experience, not research. The techniques in this book are designed to give you the highest quality job, with the least amount of effort, in the shortest period of time. I believe it will make your next paperhanging experience the most enjoyable one you have ever had.

Many wallcoverings are discussed, but this does not mean a novice should try to install the tough ones. Not even the handiest person should buy a very expensive wallcovering and try to install it. The risk is too high. That goes double for high work. Leave tall rooms to those who know what they are doing. A broken bone can sour any satisfaction of accomplishment.

If, on the other hand, you plan to do a one-story room and your wallcovering is not exotic nor expensive, then read on, help is here. If you enjoy home projects and working with your hands, you will find the information here a helpful guide.  The goal of this book is to give you a sense of pride and accomplishment when you finish you next project.
